I am hoping to cover the rest of the weekend today. It was FUN, but not that eventful. Saturday started by a few of us getting together and playing the free game we all received Friday evening at Expo 216, Cosmic Karma. We had a good time, but there was a lot to the game, so we did not get through the whole thing. But is did make a couple of us hungry, so we took a ride down to Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn by the beach. I had only been there one other time, so I was happy to go back.
When we arrived at Flaming Amy’s Burrito Barn, things had changed since the last time. I remember having table service last time, and this time there was an order window. So we went up to the window and ordered our food. My friend had gotten two tacos with a side of rice and black beans. They came on warm soft corn tortillas topped with a grilled filling, diced yellow onions, and fresh cilantro. They were served with a wedge of lime. I had decided to get a salad today. I ordered the Jamaican Jerk Salad. It had lettuce, roasted red peppers, dried banana chips, grilled pineapple and Jerk Chicken topped with jack and cheddar cheese, with pineapple jalapeno salsa on the side. You could also get it with jerk tofu, but I was not feeling that adventurous. My friend took a quick trip up to the salsa bar to get a couple of different kinds of salsa for her tacos and some for the chips on the table.
That was it for Saturday. We chose not to go out during the evening with the weather being questionable. We did get out Sunday afternoon for a bit before the next storm. We headed to Fort Fisher for a walk on the beach. We were not out long when the thunder and lightning made us turn around and head back to the car. After driving over the bridge, we were not quite ready to go home, so we made a trip to Slainte in Monkey Junction. They have half price wine on Sunday there, so we thought we would also get a bite to eat while we were there. She ordered the lunch special. You get half a sandwich and then soup or salad to go with it. She ordered the Rachel sandwich with the house salad. I was not that hungry, so I only ordered a bowl of the chicken corn chowder.
When we were finished with lunch, we were headed back to my place to do a little Wilmington Fun work, when we started talking about Candy’s Exxon and how they had a small bar in there, so we had to check it out. Detour. We went in and found they had taps by the cash register and a cooler of beer in the back. They also had small coolers along the sides and a small wine selection in the aisle. We grabbed a bottle of wine, and decided that we unfortunately not use this in our count. It did need a honorable mention though, since it had such a large selection of beer. The cardboard cutout man in the cooler also gets a shout out.
Well that was our weekend. As far as today, I may be going to the Free Gruff Goat comedy show at Waterline at 8:00pm, or possibly the free wings and trivia at Tavern Law at 8:30pm. There is also Karaoke at the Harp starting at 8:00pm and half price bottle wine at Rucker John’s with a Jazz band playing tonight.
That is all for today. I hope everyone can get out despite the weather and have some FUN!!!!
